Brainstorming

I chose the 3 songs: Arabella, Crying Lightning and Knee Socks to brainstorm. This is because I felt that thesse had a lot of imagery included in the songs which is good for when I design the cover.

Emulation

Here is my plan, I decided to use the draft on the top right because I felt that it was the best one out of all the other ideas. The reason I chose the apple shape was because Apple Corps was a multimedia corporation that was actually founded by The Beatles themselves so I thought that it was a iconic shape.

After choosing which design I was going to do, I then made a larger drawing of the draft and began to ink it in so the scanner would pick up the lines better.

Here is the design fully inked.

I scanned it into photoshop and adjusted the threshold so it was purely black and white.

Using the magic wand tool, I coloured the letters in green as the apple corps logo was always a green apple and I wanted similarities.

I then deleted the original pen lines so it looked like this.

I added a grey background.

I then added text to my design.

To get the grunge texture similar to the copies I googled grunge textures and used this one to place over my design.

I placed the texture over my design and adjusted the opacity so it looked like this.

I then copied the layer of the apple twice and changed the opacity to 28% and placed them behind the main design.

Here is my emulation completed.

And here is the copy in which I emulated my design from.

Copy

I typed in psychedelic posters on Pinterest and came across this. This design caught my eye straight away because I thought it was really clever so I decided to copy this.

I drew the design in pencil and then went over it in fine liner so it would look better when I scanned it in and easier to edit in Photoshop.

Here is the drawing fully inked. I noticed that in some places that I had made some mistakes. For instance, the eye sockets on my drawing were slightly larger than those on the original design.

I then scanned it into photoshop and adjusted the threshold so that the image was purely black and white. I removed the white and added a black background. Using the magic wand tool, I started to select the letters and and colour them in.

This is what the image looked after I finished colouring it.

I changed the background colour to a colour similar to the original. I also noticed that behind the skull there were two very faint outline copies, so I copied the skull twice and changed the opacity to 14%.

I placed these faint skulls behind the main skull, so it looked liked this.

I added text to my copy, I used a sans serif typeface that was as similar to the original as possible.

All I needed to do next was distort it to give it the same effect as the original so I typed in grunge textures into google and came across this.

I made a new layer and added this to my copy, I altered the colours so I could get it as similar as possible to the original.

Here is my copy finished.
