I decided to use the main singer in this picture (Alex Turner) for the front of my screen print design.
Using the selection tool, I cut around Alex Turner so I ended up with just this. I cut around him roughly instead of neat because I thought that it gave a good effect. I then desaturated the image and used the effect half tone to give a retro dotted design.
I then started to add text, at first I decided to use the album name 'AM' but I realised that it was hard to see the image behind if I used that name.
After thinking of different songs and album cover names, I finally decided to use the song 'Crying Lightning because it aligned easily with the band name.
I changed the text colour to pink and blue and multiplied it so it gave a purple colour when placed over. It was hard to see the text in front of the image so I had to change the opacity of the photo so it was easy to read.
I then changed the placement of the image to the right as I thought it looked better there. I considered white space as I didn't want my design to be cluttered.
When designing the back cover I decided that I wanted to use the full picture of them on the back. I used the same halftone pattern that I used on the front to include repetition and I copied the Arctic Monkeys text on to the back. I arranged the songs into a pyramid pattern but then changed this design because I realised that there were 2 alignments going on.
I preferred the lightness of the image which I included on the front, so I adjusted the opacity of the image. I then realised that if I used the same colours and typefaces of the text on the front that would include repetition and I wouldn't need the name of the band on the back. I increased the size of the text and liked the way it went of the page.
Here is the design of the front and back album cover that I am going to screen print.
I then separated all the different colours of my design and changed then to black.
After changing all the separate colours to black, I then printed the design onto acetate and place it over a screen with light sensitive paint and left it over night.
The screen reacted with the paint and looked like the above so I placed it over a piece of paper and layered the ink onto the screen pressing down firmly.
Here is the end result of my screen print. I was extremely pleased with the outcome.
